What's the statuson my job?

The answer is in Procore, split between the submittal, RFI and closeout logs. I built Hold Point to put it on one screen, with what's stuck, who has it, and what it could delay.

Hold Point's dashboard: 15 of 58 submittals approved, 8 past due, and who's holding the rest.

About me

Dallas-Fort Worth, TX

Hi, I'm Corben.

I came to construction after three years of running web and marketing projects. The trade was new to me; managing scope, people and deadlines wasn't. So far at Lee Lewis Construction, my focus has been submittals, RFIs, punch lists and closeout. The plan is to keep learning the rest of the job until I'm running my own projects.

Learning now

  • Scheduling in Microsoft Project
  • Change orders and ASIs
  • Contracts and cost

Adding to the list with every project.

What I handle

  1. Submittals and RFIs

Set up the process, check every submittal against the specs, and track every response.

  2. Closeout and punch lists

Chase closeout documents, run completion lists and pre-punch walks, and stay on the punch list until it's closed.

  3. Field coordination and meetings

Check in with foremen on open items when needed, run weekly 360 walks, and write OAC and subcontractor minutes.

Where I've been, and where I'm headed

    Web and marketing project manager

Led a team of 14 designers and developers on fixed budgets and deadlines.

Set up the submittal process in preconstruction. Now I run the submittal and RFI log and check every submittal against the contract scope and specs.

Hold Point

A custom project tracking dashboard

Keeps submittals, RFIs, blockers and follow-ups from slipping through the cracks, and anticipates schedule risks, so the job doesn't fall behind.

One screen shows who's holding up every submittal, RFI and open item, what's late, and which submittals may delay the schedule before it happens. Each item is tied to its documents and its follow-ups. Procore stays the record; Hold Point reads and writes back to it.

Pick one to see it on the phone.
